Sehgal is one of the most critically acclaimed artists to have emerged in the past few years, having developed a radical artistic practice that takes the form of live encounters between people. With a background in choreography, he produces immaterial work focusing on human interaction rather than material production. His constructed situations use the human voice, bodily movement, behaviour and language. Tino Sehgal has collaborated with children a number of times in his previous works and his new piece for 11 Rooms builds on that work, attracting the attention and energy of the international art world to Manchester for the duration of the Festival.
We are looking for a total of 7 girls of any ethnicity, aged between the age of 8 and 12 years of age. They must have long dark hair, and must be bright and able to converse comfortably with adults. The child performers will be asked to recite a monologue composed by Tino Sehgal but no previous acting experience is necessary. The girls will need to be licenced and have some time off school, so please do not submit suggestions unless you are able to make both the audition date and the rehearsal/show schedule.
Rehearsals will take place all day 2nd and 3rd July, then a couple of evenings 5-7pm during that week. Each girl will be give a maximum of 6 performances between Saturday 9th July and Sunday 17th July - scheduled in accordance with Child Performance Regulations.
